ONCE UPON A TIME…
Blake Design Studios was founded in 2019 in Bellingham, Washington, but you could say it really began in 1988 by Leslie when she had me, her daughter Kyle (if you haven’t figured it out by now, we’re a mother-daughter team). When I look back on my childhood, all I can remember is how much joy I was surrounded with, and how my mom turned everything into a celebration. From making my birthday parties those of epic proportions (she hand-painted gold dragons on my invitations one year) to turning shopping for books to read over the summer into an annual tradition involving matching t-shirts, my mom believed in making everything extraordinary, because honestly, everything is. We can just sometimes forget that.
Fast forward to now. Leslie is an incredibly talented artist, working primarily with oils and charcoals, and I have spent years in graphic design and event planning, with a passion for calligraphy and hand lettering. We started Blake Design Studio to bring our artistic abilities and passions together to commemorate what our lives have been made up of—celebrations.
So, why the name Blake Design Studio? My mother’s maiden name is Blake, and for as long as I can remember she has told me I am a Blake woman. “Never forget you come from a long line of Blake women. We love fiercely, we never give up, and nothing is more important than your family.” When thinking about what to name our business, it was clear to me we had to honor our heritage and where we’ve come from.
Our pieces are made for today, but with tomorrow in mind. We want you to be able to keep them, and for years to come, look back on them in your home and remember. Remember how you felt, how happy and excited you were, and to be transported back to that special moment in your life. Because life is made of these moments. So let us help you cherish them, remember them, and have a life full of beauty like ours has been.
